The Short-Term Travel Grants program provides fellowships for up to eight weeks to U.S. postdoctoral scholars and holders of other graduate degrees for independent or collaborative research projects in Europe and Eurasia. Fellowships are available to applicants who demonstrate how their research will make a substantive contribution to knowledge of the contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural developments in the region and how such knowledge is relevant to U.S. foreign policy. The U.S. Department of State Title VIII Program, the primary source of support for the STG Program, supports research topics that strengthen the fields of Eurasian and East European studies, and that address U.S. foreign policy interests in the region, broadly defined. Historical or cultural research that promotes understanding of current events in the region is acceptable if an explicit connection is made to policy relevant issues, broadly defined.
Countries Eligible for Research: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
