Carbon Offset Program
APSA Annual Meeting
The APSA is partnering with the Carbonfund.org as part of the association’s efforts to become a more environmentally responsible organization. The Carbonfund.org is a leading provider of climate offsets in the United States, helping individuals and organizations reduce their impact on climate change.
What is a Carbon Offset and Carbon Neutrality?
An individual’s every day activities produce carbon dioxide emissions in a variety of ways, driving to the store, heating and cooling a home, buying produce at a store, among others. Carbon offsets represent the act of reducing an equal amount of carbon somewhere else to counterbalance the carbon emissions from your energy-using activities (also known as one’s "carbon footprint").
Carbon offsets facilitate the reduction of climate footprints by supporting projects that reduce carbon dioxide emissions to balance out individual carbon footprints. Carbon neutrality occurs by off-setting one’s entire carbon footprint. Because it is virtually impossible to reach carbon neutrality, the CarbonFund.org recommends that individuals reduce the carbon emissions they can, and off-set what they cannot.
What Does this Mean for You?
In order to make the Annual Meeting more environmentally friendly, APSA is offering attendees the option of offsetting their carbon footprint for attending the Annual Meeting by donating shares to the CarbonFund.org. Each share costs $4.00. The association has designated all donated money to be used for all three of CarbonFund.Org’s global projects:
- Renewable energy
- Energy efficiency
- Reforestation
