Graduate Student Conference on "Democracy and Democratization"

The Political Science Department at the University of Connecticut invites you to participate in the first annual Graduate Student Conference on Democracy and Democratization to be held on February 27-28, 2009. The conference aims at bringing together graduate students from all sub-fields in Political Science, and other related fields. Participants will have the chance to present their research projects, exchange ideas and create a network of emerging democracy scholars. A cash award will be attributed to the best paper. The program will include a keynote address given by Sterling Professor of Political Science and distinguished scholar Ian Shapiro. Presenters will also be welcomed to join a dinner with Prof. Shapiro, faculty and invited guests.

Possible paper topics include, but are not limited to: democracy and human rights, gender, migration, political representation, global governance, electoral studies, political economy, environmental politics, justice, international security, development, etc.

The conference will also feature a workshop on Democracy and Human Rights led by University of Connecticut faculty.

Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should be submitted, along with your contact information (name, institutional affiliation, department, e-mail address), to uconn.grad.conference@gmail.com by Saturday, November 15, 2008. Submissions must be 250 words or less and must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document. Conference presentations will be approximately 15 minutes. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by December 20th.
