The following awards will be presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting in Boston. Individuals interested in submitting nominations for these prizes may do so until February 15, 2008, unless otherwise noted. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member, unless otherwise noted.

POLITICAL SCIENCE EDUCATION
The McGraw-Hill Award
McGraw-Hill announces the third annual Award for Scholarship and Teaching on Civic Engagement in Political Science. The award seeks to honor a wide range of unique and new approaches to the scholarship and teaching of civic engagement, but in particular, scholars who raise political awareness, involvement, and participation of undergraduate students. The nomination deadline is May 31. For more details, see the Political Science Education Organized Section. 

FEDERALISM & INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS
Best Book Award
The Martha Derthick Best Book Award is conferred for the best book on federalism and intergovernmental relations published at least 10 years ago that has made a lasting contribution to the study of federalism and intergovernmental relations. LAW AND COURTS
C. Herman Pritchett Award
The C. Herman Pritchett award is given annually for the best book on law and courts written by a political scientist and published in the previous year (2007). Case books and edited books are not eligible. Books may be nominated by publishers or by members of the Section. The award carries a cash prize of $250. To be considered for this year's competition, a copy of the nominated book must be submitted to each member of the awards committee by February 15, 2008. LEGISLATIVE STUDIES
Richard Fenno Award
In the tradition of Professor Fenno's work, this prize is designed to honor work that is both theoretically and empirically strong. Moreover, this prize is dedicated to encouraging scholars to pursue new and different avenues of research in order to find answers to previously unexplored questions about the nature of politics. Nominations must have a 2007 copyright date, and a copy of the book must be sent to each member of the committee by January 1, 2008. For more details, see the Legislative Studies Organized Section.


POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS AND PARTIES
Leon Epstein Award
For a book published in the last two calendar years that makes an outstanding contribution to research and scholarship on political organizations and parties. For more details, see the Political Organization and Parties Organized Section.


PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Herbert A. Simon Book Award 
The Herbert A. Simon Best Book Award conferred annually for the best book on public administration published in the last 3 to 5 years that has made a significant contribution to public administration scholarship. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member by May 1, 2008. For more details, see the Public Administration Organized Section. 


REPRESENTATION & ELECTORAL SYSTEMS
George H. Hallet Award
Given for a book that is at least 10 years old, that has had a lasting contribution to the literature on representation and electoral systems. For more details, see the Representation & Electoral Systems Organized Section. 


PRESIDENCY RESEARCH
Richard E. Neustadt Award
For the best book on the U.S. presidency published in 2007. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member by February 1, 2008. For more details see the Presidency Research Organized Section.


RELIGION & POLITICS

Best Publication Award
The Religion and Politics organized section will be presenting an award for  for the best publication dealing with religion and politics published during the specified time period.  Biennial award; last presented in 2007.  For more details, see the Religion and Politics Organized Section. 


URBAN POLITICS

Best Book Award
For the best book on urban politics published in 2007. Hard copy of book should be sent to each member of the award committee. For more details, see the Urban Politics Organized Section.


SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS

Lynton Keith Caldwell Award
The Lynton Keith Caldwell Prize is given for the best book on environmental politics and policy published in the past three years. The deadline for nominations/submissions is April 1, 2008. For more details, see the Science, Technology, and Environmental Politics Organized Section.


SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS

Don Price Award
The Don K. Price Award is given for the best book on science, technology, and politics published in the past three years. The deadline for nominations/submissions is April 1, 2008.  For more details, see the Science, Technology, and Environmental Politics Organized Section.


FOUNDATIONS OF POLITICAL THEORY

First Book Award
The First Book Award recognizes the best first book by a scholar in the early stages of his or her career. For more details, see the Foundations of Political Theory Organized Section.


FOUNDATIONS OF POLITICAL THEORY
David Easton Award
The David Easton Award is given for a book that broadens the horizons of contemporary political science by engaging issues of philosophical significance in political life through any of a variety of approaches in the social sciences and humanities. COMPARATIVE POLITICS
Gregory Luebbert Book Award
For the best book in the field of comparative politics published in 2006 or 2007. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member by February 15, 2008.  For more details, see the Comparative Politics Organized Section.


EUROPEAN POLITICS AND SOCIETY

Best Book Award
For the best book on European politics and society published in 2007. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member by March 1, 2008. For more details, see the European Politics and Society Organized Section.


POLITICAL COMMUNICATION
Doris Graber Book Award
For the best book published on political communication in the last 10 years. For more details, see the Political Communication Organized Section.


POLITICS AND HISTORY
J. David Greenstone Book Award
The J. David Greenstone Award for the best book in politics and history published within the previous two calendar years. Please contact David Vogel, Chair of the Award Committee for submission information. For more details, see the Politics and History Organized Section.


POLITICAL ECONOMY

William H. Riker Book Award
For the best book on political economy published in 2007. The deadline for submitting books to the committee members will be March 1, 2008. For more details, see the Political Economy Organized Section.


NEW POLITICAL SCIENCE

Michael Harrington Book Award
The Michael Harrington Book Award is given for an outstanding book that demonstrates how scholarship can be used in the struggle for a better world. To complete the nomination, a copy of the book needs to be sent to each of the three committee members. Books must be received by April 1, 2008. POLITICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Robert E. Lane Award
For the best book in political psychology published in 2007. For more details, see the Political Psychology Organized Section.


ELECTIONS, PUBLIC OPINION, AND VOTING BEHAVIOR

Philip Converse Book Award
Philip Converse Book Award for outstanding book in the field published five or more years ago. One copy of the nominated book should be submitted to each committee member by March 1, 2008. For more details, see the Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Organized Section.


RACE, ETHNICITY, AND POLITICS

Best Book Award
The Best Book Award is awarded to best book in the field of race, ethnicity, and politics. One copy of each book submitted must be sent to each committee member. Deadline for submissions/nominations is March 1, 2008. For more details, see the Race, Ethnicity and Politics Organized Section.


INTERNATIONAL HISTORY AND POLITICS

Robert Jervis and Paul Schroeder Best Book Award
For the best book on international history and politics. This award may be granted to a single-authored or multi-authored book, or to an edited volume. The award will be given to works published in the calendar year prior to the year of the APSA meeting at which the award is presented. The copyright date of a book will establish the relevant year. Hence, books with a 2007 copyright date will be eligible for the award presented at the 2008 APSA Annual Meeting. To be considered for the award, nominations must be received by January 31, 2008.

Nominations for the Jervis-Schroeder Book award (including four copies of cover letters and books) should be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer of the International History and Politics section. For more details, see the International History and Politics Organized Section.


COMPARATIVE DEMOCRATIZATION

Best Book Award
The Best Book Award is given for the best single authored, multi-authored, or edited book on comparative democratization published in 2007. Books may be nominated by any interested parties, including publishers. One copy of the book should be sent to each of the committee members by February 15, 2008. For more details, see the Comparative Democratization Organized Section.


HUMAN RIGHTS

Best Book Award
The Best Book Award is given for the best single-authored, multi-authored or edited volume on human rights published in 2007. To be considered for the award, a copy of the book must be sent to each of the committee member by March 31, 2008. For more details, see the Human Rights Organized Section.


QUALITATIVE METHODS

Giovanni Sartori Book Award
The Giovanni Sartori Book Award honors Giovanni Sartori's work on qualitative methods and concept formation, and especially his contribution to helping scholars think about problems of context as they refine concepts and apply them to new spatial and temporal settings. The award is intended to encompass two types of contributions: new research on methodology per se, i.e., studies that introduce specific methodological innovations or that synthesize and integrate methodological ideas in a way that is in itself a methodological contribution; and substantive work that is an exemplar for the application of qualitative methods.

This award may be granted to a single-authored or multi-authored book, or to an edited volume. The award will be given to works published in the calendar year prior to the year of the APSA meeting at which the award is presented. The copyright date of a book will establish the relevant year. Hence, books with a 2007 copyright date will be eligible for the award presented at the 2008 APSA meeting.

To be considered for the award, nominations must be received by January 31, 2008.
