APSA/ITP Webconference on Social Media and the 2008 Elections

APSA and its Organized Section on Information Technology and Politics (ITP) co-sponsored a free webconference on the "Use of ICT and Social Media in the 2008 Elections."  This discussion was held in the virtual conference room of the Center for Research on Collaboratories and Technology Enhanced Learning Communities (Cotelco) at Syracuse University. Political scientists, social media specialists, and all other interested parties were invited to participate in this informal discussion.

Panelists

  • George Kilpatrick, radio show host, New Inspiration for the Nation, provided the introduction.
  • Derrick L. Cogburn, associate professor and director of the Center for Research on Collaboratories and Technology Enhanced Learning Communities (Cotelco) at Syracuse University, discussed "Uses of Social Media in the Obama Campaign"
  • G.R. Boynton, professor of New Media and Politics at the University of Iowa, discussed "Analyses of the 2008 YouTube Campaigns"
  • Renee Marlin-Bennett, professor of Global Political Economy and International Relations at Johns Hopkins University, discussed "The New City?: Citizens, Facebook and Participant-Created Content"
