Call for Applications and Nominations:
Perspectives on Politics Editors

Applications and nominations are sought for an editor or editorial team for the American Political Science Association’s journal, Perspectives on Politics for a term beginning in June 2009.

Background
Perspectives on Politics is intended to be a journal of unusually broad interest to scholars across many fields and the informed public, in addition to professional political scientists, political analysts, and policy makers. It features academically rigorous but broadly accessible essays that extend and frequently synthesize significant research developments and scholarly debates pertaining to all dimensions of political science. Perspectives articles often connect research findings, conceptual innovations, or theoretical developments to major enduring and contemporary problems of “real world” politics more fully and explicitly than specialized journal publications sometimes do.  The journal seeks to capture the excitement and diversity of good political science research and the illumination it provides for key political issues today.

Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates should indicate their plans for fulfilling these goals, including their visions for the journal and the efforts they would make to build and utilize an editorial board or team that is broadly representative of the discipline.  Relevant criteria for the editorship are scholarly achievement, breadth of interest, relevant experience, literary skill, organizational experience, and strength of institutional support.

The APSA will compensate the editor at 2/9ths of salary and will also provide significant financial support for a managing editor and for copy-editing.  The Association anticipates that the editor(s)’ home institution will provide support for three half-time assistants as well as office space and equipment.
