Education for civic engagement and responsive governance were founding objectives of the political science profession at the beginning of the 20th century and remain essential for the 21st century.   Supporting and sustaining quality civic education has been an important theme throughout the history of APSA.

The APSA Committee on Civic Education & Engagement focuses on the contributions that higher education, and political sciences in higher education institutions, are making or could make to enhance the quantity and quality of civic engagement among young Americans.

The annual APSA Conference on Teaching and Learning in Political Science aims to promote greater understanding of cutting-edge approaches, techniques, and methodologies that can be applied in the political science classroom.
