Political Science Community Mobilizes to Help in Wake of Hurricane Katrina Disaster
APSA, SPSA and NCOBPS Coordinate Efforts

Printer-friendly format

APSA, the Southern Political Science Association (SPSA), and the National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS) are coordinating efforts in the discipline to assist political scientists, graduate students and departments affected by the disaster in the Gulf region.

APSA Political Science Relief Fund

APSA members and friends raised almost $25,000 to help rebuild political science departments that were directly affected by Hurricane Katrina. This was matched by APSA to donate $50,000 to four political science departments hit hard by the storm. Xavier University, New Orleans, Dillard University, New Orleans, The University of New Orleans and The University of Southern Mississippi, Long Beach each received $12,500 to replace computers, library resources and other departmental property damaged in the storm.

While the money they received is but a fraction of what is needed, the gifts were appreciatively received by the faculty and students at those departments. Thanks, as always, for your support of APSA projects.
