Sexuality and Politics
Printer-friendly format

At its spring 2007 meeting, the APSA Council approved the creation of a new
Organized Section on Sexuality and Politics. The section invites those interested in this growing field of research and teaching to join. The section dues are only $7.00 annually.

The new Section will hold an organizing meeting at the APSA annual conference in Chicago followed by a celebration reception.  At the meeting officers will be elected
according to the by-laws from the new membership.  In the next few weeks, the Section will circulate its first newsletter outlining this process and requesting nominations.

The Sexuality and Politics Section aims to:

  • foster the study of sexuality and politics within the discipline of political science
  • encourage rigorous but respectful research in the area of sexuality and politics
  • promote, where appropriate, the interests of political scientists researching sexuality and politics within a larger interdisciplinary and political community.

The objective of the Sexuality and Politics Section is to bring together scholars working in a variety of areas within political science to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and to foster intellectual community and expertise within the APSA.  There is a growing body of scholarship within the discipline of political science that addresses the issue of sexuality within a variety of subfields including public policy; local, state and national
governance; international relations, elections, public administration and political theory.
The proposed Section will bring these scholars together and provide synergy for this research across the APSA.
