APSA-AAAS Webinar: Political Science and Human Rights – Exploring the Connections

Human rights connect to political science in diverse ways, both as an area of study within the discipline and as a body of norms that informs and affects an array of activities across political science. Sponsored by APSA and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, this webinar explores these intersections through an introduction to key human rights instruments and a discussion of ways to engage human rights issues in teaching, research, and service in sub-fields throughout the discipline. Legal Issues 101 for Department Chairs

On June 21, 2017, APSA hosted a presentation on legal issues facing department chairs. Led by Bethany Bridgham, Deputy General Counsel at American University, this presentation addresses the specific role of chairs in dealing with legal concerns in areas such as hiring, academic freedom, and compliance with Title IX and ADA regulations. Tips on Effective Online Teaching in Political Science

A webinar on tips for effective online teaching took place on March 29, 2017 and was led by Bruce Wilson, Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Florida and Melanie Smith, Assistant Professor of Public Administration at Park University. Geared toward graduate students and early career professors with little-to-no online teaching experience, the discussion centered on the specific tools and strategies teachers can use to maximize the effectiveness of their remote courses. Political Parties and the 2016 Election

A webinar for teachers took place on October 12, 2016, and was led by Barry Burden, Professor of Political Science, Director of the Elections Research Center, and the Lyons Family Chair in Electoral Politics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His presentation focuses on how the party system in the United States has been changed and shaped during the course of the 2016 presidential election.
