In addition to TLC at APSAthe Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC), and the Centennial Center Teaching & Learning Symposia, APSA offers a wide array of teaching and learning resources, including workshops and resource databases.

2019 Joint International Teaching and Learning Conference

The 2019 Joint TLC is a collaboration between APSA, the Political Studies Association (PSA), the British International Studies Association (BISA), and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). It will take place in Brighton, England from June 17-19, 2019. The conference aims to provide a forum in which political science educators from different countries and contexts can come together to explore these challenges and share their experiences and teaching practices. 

The proposal period for the 2019 Joint International Teaching and Learning Conference is now open! We welcome contributions which explore the challenges faced in national, international, or comparative contexts. We also welcome different approaches to understanding populism and the challenges that it may present to political science educators in different contexts.


Teaching & Education

A key component of APSA's mission is to support political science education and the professional development of its practitioners. Teaching is a vital component of the discipline, and APSA seeks to generate a greater understanding of cutting-edge approaches, techniques, and methodologies that can be effectively applied in the political science classroom. Programs include the APSA Teaching and Learning Conference, teaching awards, the APSA syllabus project, and civic engagement initiatives.

APSA resources for assessment include Assessment in Political Science (2009), edited by Michelle Deardorff, Kerstin Hamann, and John Ishiyama. This book is written to provide faculty and departments resources on classroom, departmental and program assessment. This guide provides in-depth discussion and resources for all departments and institutions. In addition to general assessment tools, the authors and editors provide guidance on assessing learning in special situations such as in online environments and experiential programs.

Pedagogy Workshop
The pedagogy workshop is designed for advanced PhD students preparing teaching portfolios for the job market and junior faculty preparing first course and tenure promotion files. APSA hosted its second annual pedagogy workshop on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, in Boston. Stay tuned for information about the next workshop taking place in Washington, DC on August 28, 2019.
Political Science Club Guide
Political science clubs are a great way to get students involved in departments and campus life. Such clubs offer benefits to students and departments alike by facilitating greater and more meaningful faculty-student engagement and by providing opportunities for networking, professional development, and leadership experience. Undergraduate Research Week
In conjunction with National Undergraduate Research Week, APSA showcases undergraduate research submitted by political science faculty and departments. Featured research is the result of undergraduate coursework, capstone research, or departmental or college/university-wide undergraduate research efforts.
